Emma (00:02):
You're listening to Dialogue Frog's English dialogue practice podcast. Someone asked me a question the other day and I'm going to ask you the same question.
Luke (00:13):
All right.
Emma (00:13):
Because I thought it was interesting. What is one book that has a profound impact on your life?
Luke (00:25):
I'd have to think about that for a while because I'm not that big of a reader. Um.
Emma (00:32):
Let's change it then. What is one song that has had a big impact on your life?
Luke (00:41):
Um, I really like a song called, 'Hey You' by Pink Floyd.
Emma (00:46):
Why is that song special to you?
Luke (00:50):
Um, it was just the way, it, just the lyrics of it particularly are just like someone reaching out, like hope for a dark time, I guess.
Emma (01:04):
Interesting. Well, thanks for sharing that.
Luke (01:11):
How 'bout you? What's- for you, what's one book that's done that for you?
Emma (01:18):
You know, when the question was asked to me, I couldn't come up with an answer and it's because I don't think I have one book, that- one single book that's affected me. I own a lot of books because I like to read. A lot of books, probably over a hundred easily and I've read it- I've read many more besides that. And ever since I was little, I've been reading, and so I, I don't have a single book that stands out to me as extra special or extra important that has changed me in some way. But one book that I did read recently, and it was actually a graphic novel, it was called 'Cat's Cafe' and I think the author and artist is Matt Tarpley. It was, I read it last year and it was, I call it soul food. It's one of those things where when you read it, it's just the right time. It's the right content. And it just makes you happy and feel good.
Luke (02:23):
Yeah.
Emma (02:24):
And I like to read things that make me happy and make me feel good. Okay. Well, thanks for sharing. That was-
Luke (02:35):
Mm hm.
Emma (02:35):

The Great American Read was a mini-TV series that aired on the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the U.S. in 2018. The show surveyed 7,000 people to create a list of 100 popular books in the U.S. As the series introduced the books on that list, it asked the public to vote on the books. In the end, the series ranked the 100 books by popularity based on the votes from the public.
You can check out the entire list of the 100 most popular books on the PBS website. Many of these books are considered classics or are very common in popular culture today. You can also watch a promotion of the TV series below.
