Real English Conversation | Shopping for a New Headset | 43

Listen to a short, real English conversation as Emma tells Luke about her experience getting lost in the computer store while shopping for a new headset.

This episode is good for practicing how to tell and listen to a story in English. It also has common expressions that show your conversation partner you are listening to the story, such as ‘So, what did you do?’

You're listening to a real English conversation with Dialogue Frog. So, I have another story for you, Luke.

Luke 0:11
Bring it on.

Emma 0:13
A few days ago, my headset died.

Luke 0:18
Uh oh. Like it wouldn't even move?

Emma 0:24
It would not even move.

Luke 0:25
You checked its little headphone vitals?

Emma 0:28
I checked the headphone vitals. There was no sound. It would not record my voice, and I use that thing for work! I can't, I can't be without a headset.

Luke 0:39
Mm hm. So, what did you do?

Emma 0:42
This, this weekend I had to go to the computer store.

Luke 0:46
Uh huh.

Emma 0:48
It was not a fun experience.

Luke 0:50
Uh oh.

Emma 0:51
Apparently there's a lot of different types of headphones. Or rather, there's a difference between a headphone and a headset.

Luke 0:59
I see.

Emma 1:01
I didn't know this.

Luke 1:02
Yeah.

Emma 1:04
So in the store, there's two different sections.

Luke 1:07
Mm hm.

Emma 1:07
There's a section for headphones.

Luke 1:09
Yep.

Emma 1:10
Headphones are what you use to listen to music, apparently. So, they are compatible with smartphones, mp3 players and that kind of thing.

Luke 1:19
Mm hm.

Emma 1:20
Then there's headsets, which are compatible with computers.

Luke 1:24
Mm hm.

Emma 1:25
And actually, there's actually a subdivision here. There's headsets for gamers-

Luke 1:29
Right.

Emma 1:29
And then there's like work headsets.

Luke 1:31
Right.

Emma 1:32
And those are actually in different parts of the store too! So there's three sections just for things that can either record your voice and provide you with sound.

Luke 1:42
Right.

Emma 1:44
Needless to say, I got lost in the store.

Luke 1:46
Yep. That's quite a- quite a dilemma.

Emma 1:52
It was a dilemma. Eventually though, I found a new headset.

Luke 1:58
That's good.

Emma 1:59
Not headphones.

Luke 2:00
Yeah.

Emma 2:01
I almost bought the wrong ones. And they are expensive so I'm glad I-I bought a headset and not headphones.

Luke 2:07
Yep.

Emma 2:10
Alright, well thanks for listening to another real conversation in English with Dialogue Frog.

Hey, Luke, guess what?

Luke 2:20
What?

Emma 2:20
Dialogue Frog now has a Facebook page!

Luke 2:24
No way.

Emma 2:25
Yes way!

Luke 2:26
Does that mean our subscribers can follow us on Facebook?

Emma 2:29
Yes, our listeners can follow us on Facebook. I plan to put some, uh, episode updates and some extra content there. So if our listeners would like to follow us on Facebook, the link is in the description.
