Emma (00:02):
You are listening to Dialogue Frog, a podcast for English listening practice. Luke, I have to say I really like those socks.

Luke (00:10):
Oh, thanks.

Emma (00:11):
They're interesting socks.

Luke (00:13):
Yeah, they are. They're uh, they're warm and fuzzy.

Emma (00:18):
Warm and fuzzy. You know, you're a warm and fuzzy person.

Luke (00:23):
Oh, thanks. Appreciate that. You too.

Emma (00:26):
Thank you. Thank you. It's the first time someone's called me warm and fuzzy. I usually don't get compliments like that.

Luke (00:33):
Well, you're warm and fuzzy.

Emma (00:33):
Thank you. What, what's the favorite compliment you've ever received?

Luke (00:39):
After a show, one time-

Emma (00:41):
A musical performance.

Luke (00:42):
Musical performance. A lady came up to me and she's like, "I've never heard anyone play guitar like that before." So like that was cool.

Emma (00:51):
It made you feel good?

Luke (00:51):
Yeah.

Emma (00:52):
Yeah. For me, I, it's, it's not really about like, when people give me a direct compliment, but when something I've done is recognized in a way that I'm invited to do more of something-

Luke (01:10):
Oh yeah.

Emma (01:10):
So if it's at work, for example, if I've done a project well, and then I'm included for another project, that's similar-

Luke (01:17):
Yeah.

Emma (01:17):
That- it's like a backhanded compliment-

Luke (01:20):
Yeah.

Emma (01:20):
I think of, of my work. How- do you ever get those compliments though, that you're not quite sure if the person means it as a compliment or an insult?

Luke (01:31):
Yeah. I've had a few of those.

Emma (01:32):
I hate those. I'm also worried that sometimes when I give a compliment, people will think that I'm not sincere.

Luke (01:43):
Yeah.

Emma (01:43):
I really do like those socks.

Luke (01:44):
Oh, thanks. They really are warm and fuzzy.

Emma (01:47):
