Emma (00:02):
Welcome to another dialogue conversation with Dialogue Frog. So, it's start'n to get pretty hot outside.

Luke (00:12):
Yep. Fried a egg on the sidewalk.

Emma (00:15):
It's not that hot yet. Yeah.

Luke (00:17):
That's good 'cause I don't really want to eat anything that's on the sidewalk.

Emma (00:21):
Yeah, that's pretty gross. But it is about to be summertime. So, you're... you're done with school for the summer, right?

Luke (00:29):
Mm hm.

Emma (00:30):
Congratulations.

Luke (00:31):
Yep. Thank you.

Emma (00:32):
Very nice. So, do you have any goals for your summer vacation?

Luke (00:38):
Um, be able to do five consecutive backflips while singing in a very high voice.

Emma (00:48):
That's pretty weird.

Luke (00:49):
Yeah. Yeah. It is.

Emma (00:51):
Good luck with that.

Luke (00:51):
Thanks.

Emma (00:54):
Do you have any real goals?

Luke (00:56):
Excuse me? Uh, I, I guess for my real goals, I'd like to, um, just work on my project that's due in the fall for, sch- for, for next semester.

Emma (01:13):
Oh, that's like your graduation project.

Luke (01:16):
Mm hm.

Emma (01:16):
Is it a project or is it a thesis?

Luke (01:18):
It's, it's a project, I would say.

Emma (01:22):
What is- what is this project?

Luke (01:24):
Um, so I have to record a album of original songs, um, show it to my professors, I guess.

Emma (01:33):
Wow. That's like right up your alley.

Luke (01:37):
It is.

Emma (01:37):
That's exciting stuff. So, do you have ideas for your project already?

Luke (01:43):
Yeah, it's a- I have it stewing in my, my noggin.

Emma (01:50):
And it has to- it's not just like, you're not just recording an album, but it's gonna to be performed, right?

Luke (01:55):
Yep.

Emma (01:56):
That's gonna be cool.

Luke (01:57):
Yeah.

Emma (01:57):
You get to have your peop- other people performing your music on the stage.

Luke (02:02):
Yeah, it'll be fun.

Emma (02:03):
Yeah, be satisfying, probably.

Luke (02:06):
Yeah.

Emma (02:06):
I'm excited for you.

Luke (02:07):
Thanks.

Emma (02:09):

Some high schools and many university programs in the U.S. require the completion of a project, thesis, or portfolio before a student can graduate. Completion of the project demonstrates a student has mastered their studies.

In Luke's case, he is studying music composition. It is a common requirement for students studying music composition to write music and have it performed.
