Emma: You are listening to Dialogue Frog’s short and sometimes silly English conversations for listening, imitation and shadowing practice. Today is episode 3 and we’re talking about concerts with Luke.

Luke: Hey Emma, how are you?

Emma: I am good, thank you.

Luke: How are you, audience?

Emma: I think they all said they are ok but they could do with winning the lottery.

Luke: Hashtag agree.

Emma: But we’re talking about concerts today.

Luke: Yep.

Emma: Are you a fan of concerts.

Luke: I am a big fan of concerts. I’ve gone to quite a few. How do you feel about them?

Emma: Um, I, I do like concerts. But I have to be in the mood for them. I’m not really much of a music head. But I know you’re quite the music aficionado.

Luke: Yep. I am a music avocado like you said.

Emma: Right. So, what makes a good concert?

Luke: Um, well now a days, it seems like, in my opinion, um, what I like to see in a concert is authenticity. cause now-a-days what a lot of artists do is they’ll play along to backing tracks and metronomes. And there’s a lot of um, there’s even a lot of miming that goes on today, so what I personally like to see in a concert is just musicians on stage and you can tell there is a connection between the musician and the audience. And to me, even if I don’t like the gen-genres of music they’re playing, a lot of times that is what I like to see in, in uh, the performance.

Emma: Are you referring to right now more like rock concerts and pop concerts, as far as the back tracking and the mimic-miming.

Luke: Yeah, yeah that’s where I see it a lot is especially in the pop world. And and a lot of the a lot of the ugh popular rock, modern rock too, um, yeah, but, and then the other thing about a lot of modern concerts too is just how loud they are.

Emma: Yeah.

Luke: And um.

Emma: You have to bring ear plugs in order to enjoy the music.

Luke: Right, so that, that’s something I kind of think I unnecessary. I like it to be comfortably loud, if that makes sense.

Emma: Is that the fault of like the music mixer at the concert?

Luke: I don’t think it’s that. I don’t think its that. I think it’s, it’s kind of like been kinda like a one-up man’s ship development that there’s something about if you see a band that’s a little bit louder for whatever reason it feels like they’re a little bit better too. And so I feel like and that’s especially true on the on the radio.

Emma: It’s kind of like spicy food.

Luke: Yeah.

Emma: Its no longer about what it tastes like, its about how hot it is.

Luke: Exactly. Um, But that’s just my opinion. I know a lot of people like it really loud, so.

Emma: As with anything, everyone has their own opinion.

Luke: Mm hm.

Emma: So that was our conversation on concerts. We might talk about concerts again sometime but thank you for joining us today and thank you for listening to Dialogue Frog.
